68. Kawa Jamoon

The sweet delicious Kawa jamun is the most anticipated thing I wanted to try and eat. Lastly with mom in la’s initiation was able to shape the kawa into jamun.

Long back in Mysore when we made our seniors enjoy our party, the kawa jamun was one special item in the meal, which made everyone talk about it. And made me fall in love with it which I never liked till then.

Most the times it was slipping from my mind that I loved it. Certainly today the forgotten craving made me prepare it.
Hope you too like it.....

47. Kinda Impression Time

I never tried show off, but sometimes unknowingly we will try to impress some important personnel in life. Overall I’m not, but 10% of my senses are trying to thrill my mom in la.

Its time to show her my cooking expertise.
Tried one new dose recipe, ‘Tomato Dosa’, it came out unexpectedly tasty and yummy, thanks to Mahima for this crispy yummy recipe. Scored few points finally ;)

Making tomato dosa is so easy and instant batter preparation makes life easier.
Grind sooji, tomato, curds, ginger, green mirchi and add curry leaves, jeera and few red chilli flakes and thus the batter prepared. Spread this grinded batter on heated tawa and wait for few minutes, and lastly crispy tomato dosa is ready.
Check out the pics.....

43. Luffa / Ridge Gourd Curry

It looks so crooked, long fat with complete unpleasant look. I rarely choose to cook with luffa. Lately I kinda missed the curry which my mom used to make with chapati or roti. So tried and it came out really yummy. We like the hatred stuff though....

41. Upma

It is my beloved hatred item, but imposed to cook at least twice a week. This is an affliction I’m facing after wedding. Yes its my dear husbands favorite. He loves it, if I did not cook at least once in a week, he craves for it.

I never liked upma. Whenever my mom makes upma, me and my sister used to cry saying 'concrete' 'concrete' and run. I remember how my mom used to force us to eat sometimes.

As soon I learnt its Darpan's favorite, I regretted  my choice ;)....
I think, even upma knows that I hate it. That is why it took many days for me to understand and cook perfectly.

Whenever I make Upma, I’m filled with all negativity, hatred and sadness. I never knew that an eatable can influence my emotions. Though I make this upma with so much hatred, Darpan like it. He says I have become perfect upma chef. I do not know whether to feel happy or sad for this compliment.

37. Bisi Bele Bath

Sunday special bisi bisi bele bath. One of my favorite dish. Mom usually used to make during holiday days.

This spicy delicious dish is from Karnataka. With handful of spices and all cut vegetables, the bite of bisi bele bath just melts in mouth. I prefer having  mirchi bajji or pakora as side chat along with boondi and raita. Today I have made onion pakora.

This colorful plate with bisi bele bath, pakora with aloo bhujia and raita, watching some telugu movies made this Sunday perfect.

34. Sabudana Khichdi

This pack of sabudana was in my kitchen cupboard from couple of months. Finally it took a shape as Khichdi. The experiment executed very well.

I use sabudana very rarely, but after preparing Khichdi this time. I determined to explore more items with it.

I soaked sabudana for couple of hours and drained off all water. Later I did tadka with little more oil than usual, adding chillies and potato. Once the potatoes are boiled, added fried peanuts powder, turmeric, salt and little lime juice. Then added soaked sabudana and mixed it well and garnished with coriander.
Thus prepared yummy yummy sabudana khichdi. Here goes the pics.

31. Karela Masala

The bitter guard, which I know very little about. I never liked it. But these days I felt like something is missing in my fridge with my foodie vegetables. And it was bitter guard.

I never tried to experiment much with this crooked weird textured vegetable. So thought of giving it a shot. Initial experiment was kind of failure, where I tried to fill the karela with masala, so took some time for the second experiment and was searching for some easy and tasty recipe.
Recently when I had been to one of my good friends Anita, I came across this particular recipe which is easy and makes you love karela.

Here I cut the karela into pieces removing its skin. Later boiled it with buttermilk adding salt and turmeric. After boiling, drained out the buttermilk from cut pieces and deep fried in oil and added the spices with tamarind and little sugar.

Believe me, it came out really well. Bitter taste slightly touched with sourness and
sweetness drooled my mouth. Hope you too like it. Lets try and enjoy karela.
Few of the karela masala pics.

I believed the preparation of badusha as difficult task. But when I actually prepared it following Vah Chef recipe, felt it as the easiest sweet to make.

Following is the video I referred.

25. Gol Guppaz

These crispy small gol puffs filled with freshly cut vegetables especially onion and juiced with spicy mint water made a perfect evening.

This yummy chat is called as Gol Gappa or Pani puri or Puchkas.
This is one of mine and Darpan's favourite chat which we often have @ home.

I remember the days of mysore, the way we friends used have chat time every afternoon
after college.
When I recall my times in bangalore where each and every street has Pani puri stalls serving spicy awesome gol guppa. I used to enter any street, spend some little money and keep munching the crispy puris filled with pani till my tummy says stop.
I badly miss those days, and those street pani puri.

22. Jowar Roti

One of my favourite bread Jowar Roti.
Its my first attempt preparing it. My mom used to make once in week. But after coming to US I never got chance to eat. I had thought  it is a tough job to make jowar roti. But finally a fine day I made mind to prepare it. And the attempt was successful. Initially the rotis were little thick but as I got the trick the rotis were in appropriate shape.

People follow different method. But I followed Vahchef's recipe. The traditional method follows the hand pressing, means rotis were moulded to shape in using bare hand. It was difficult to manage for me with bare hand so had to use roller. I would like expertise the traditional procedure.

This bread is from North Karnataka. And is very high in fibre and healthy. Lots of people prefer to eat regularly in Summer. This goes with Dal, raita any curries. But I prefer eating this yummy roti with spicy eggplant masala.

Finally Jowar rotis with hot and spicy eggplant masala with crunchy onion bite made my day.

17. Rice Sevai

Sunday special brunch Rice Sevai, one of mine and darpan's favourite. This one is very easy recipe which can be made in short time, and can be served for breakfast brunch or  as evening snack.

These sevai are kind of noodles made of rice. I got the pack from K Mart, Korean store. The Korean rice noodles are quite different from what we get from Indian stores.
The Korean rice noodles are kind of transparent to look as our Indian rice noodles are opaque, but no difference in taste.

You can prepare it just like vegetable upma adding vegetables. But as we both like lemon flavoured noodles, I have not added any vegetables in this dish today. Just did the seasoning with more peanuts and lemon juice.

These yummy noodles can be served with pickle or chutney or chips. We love to have it with veggie fries. Lets cook, eat and enjoy.

11. Bread Dosa

Bread Dosa, a new recipe which I tried recently. Instant mixing of dough makes it easier  compared to traditional dosas. Of-course these bread dosas does not beat the taste of traditional dosas but it can be tried once in a while.
I felt these dosas almost tastes like rava dosa.

I got the recipe from one my friend and later referred to the following clip:

Prepare Eat and enjoy....
