160. Kid Creature

“Kid Creature”, a tagline below the free hand drawing art over t-shirts struck my eyes when I was in Yoki Shop.
Heard a quite inspiring story of a 12 year old making his own line “Kid Creature” with his hand art drawings which are purely of his own imaginations. Each drawings over T-shirt shows his own way of expression. His line has been sold in few of the boutiques and retail stores.
He wants to donate 10% of the profit on all of his Kid Creature sales to help fight against cystic fibrosis.

158. Yoki Shop, I mean It

It was a great experience doing the store installation @ Yoki Shop.
The shop is cute located across the street of Newport Beach.
The store carries  vintage, surf and high fashion using overstock fabrics and trims to create unique, one-of-a-kind garments. They make new pieces every day which looks fresh and new. The store has a story and their designs have a story. The store is a great inspiration for kids, young designers and adults.
Yoki means Good in Japanese so the store is.

157. Emotions

Everyone admit or not have some kind of personal association to colors, like attraction, repulsion, love, hatred etc.
Mood associations, emotional reactions are evidence of meaning of colors....

Red: Exciting, powerful, energetic, passion, love, danger, affection, impulsive
Blue: soothing, tender, cool, calm, confidence
Yellow: Dazzling, cheerful, shallow, destructive
Green: Youthful, hope, nature, poison, danger
Purple: Sedate deceit, misery, dignified, adversity

Fusion of a design with meaning associated with colors brings up to entire different senses. Doing this exercise was brainstorming helping in knowing the exact association of colors with emotions. Seeing so many designs with various emotions and colors was so overpowering.

156. Kumare

Vikram Gandhi’s movie Kumare, a story of belief as it quoted in the beginning of movie
"Faith begins as an experiment and ends as an experience"
The movie begins with Vikram’s simple motive of tricking people with his fake avatar as Kumare Guru and as the movie goes it creates strong impact on Vikram’s own self.

Movie feels so cynical in the beginning and as it goes it makes you think.
I always wondered how the fake gurus are surviving and able to create such strong followers. After watching Kumare, I almost got all answers.

155. Field Trip to South Coast Plaza

Had good time learning the visual displays of various retail stores @ South Coast Plaza.
We spent  time in front of the store analysing their visuals and learning their design elements and principals. Each store has its own story, art and creativity which is hidden in their window visual presentation. It not only creates pleasantness to the store but also welcomes consumers helping in healthy economy to the store.
Displays has both art and craft. Having constant change in visual concepts and formulas is very important. Improvising the window visuals not only gives freshness but also reflects the stores creative sense.
Louis Vuitton window conveys rich, busy corporate and carries all required brand values. They used various design elements like balance, intensity, contrast, texture, lines, perspective, rhythm, value, shape, repetition and flow.
The way the repetition of metal papers which are bent in different ways gives the flow, adds the perspective. The contrast they played using white and metallic gold over black perfectly worked out. The pose and looks of mannequins and the placement of the customised silver typewriters are flawless.

154. NCL Fashion Show

Another great experience of volunteering  backstage @ National Charity League Fashion Show.
Working under James Campbell Productions, one of the LA’s premier fashion show and event producers was voluminous.
The production exposure was vast compared to Cameo’s Fashion Show. As the models were highschool teens who were not professionals, the experience is quite different and got to learn both pre and post show responsibilities of production team.

153. Fun Installing the Window

Had great fun installing the Medical Assistance and Cardio Vascular window.
The exercise is quite challenging. As we chose medical, it made more difficult and @ same time helped us to think all possibilities available to make window visually subject specific.

Though we had hard time in finalising the concept, the outcome is kind of satisfactory.
3 dimensional heart is a key prop for Cardiovascular window which we initially thought of making with barbed wire.
We made a right choice going with our instructor, Steve Jones idea of foam board heart which is given depth by scaling. The rest of the space of window is filled with echocardiogram pictures.
The Medical Assistance window is again lined with quotational medical equipment images with hanging plastic syringes on either side. Few antique medical equipments provided by department adds needed attention to the window.

Both windows certainly imply simple, informative with required elements representing the respective departments.

151. Cameo Fashion Show

Had an awesome wonderful day volunteering backstage @ Cameo Fashion Show.
“An Afternoon in New York” is the theme for this year's fashion show.
The event included a luncheon with complimentary wine, fashion show, a live auction, silent auction, opportunity drawing.

Working backstage with models was so exciting. Thought the space was small, the models were professionals and organized well, so had friendly atmosphere.
Racks of clothes split up for each individual model with the shoes on the floor so that the dresser knows the match up. I have to admit, the people I worked with were really really nice and friendly. It all condense to a few intense minutes during a show when models change into a second or even third look. Dressers race to help the models out of one look and into another.

Being a dresser backstage furnish you for the fashion industry. The more shows you assist with, the more untroubled you get with the backstage production of a show.

150. Sixties Bright Graphical Vibes

As I was watching Anna Sui’s collection on fall 2103 Runway, I went back to my childhood dress up style in just a few outfits. Her sixties retro vibes completely worked on me.
It always seems the collection on runway are highly designer with rich looks. But Anna’s collection seemed ideal for mix and match wearable wardrobe. Lots of leggings and knee socks with A-line frocks, which looked so simple, elegant, trendy and whimsical and ready to wear with mix of retro style.
The flirty tender outfits in bright and vibrant colors with frisky and graphic prints just looks perfect on any teenage girl. The sixties look of collared shirt with neckties on A - line frocks seemed new and refresh.
Sometimes using more colors and patterns clashes the look, instead Anna’s collection had harmony and great blend and use of color with patterns .I would love to have any shred from Anna’s fall collection.

147. Interweave

Creating a visual illusion by Interweaving images really works awesome. The concept of interweave can be implemented in any design conception.

When I started this project, I never understood the concept. As I proceeded, the merging of two images seemed more interesting creating entire new dimension.

143. Shopping shopping........

Fashion Island, a must go place for all fashion lovers. In two years of my stay in Orange County, my visits to Fashion Island goes huge.
I love to shop and browse the stores. The mall is mostly filled with stylish and trendy glimpses. If you want to see the latest trends in fashion bias, you might want to go to this place.

When I was in Fashion Island this weekend, I noticed that stores have come up with creative and innovative window displays to wow their consumers.
I feel window presentations are sometimes more than a brand. When I passed by Quicksilver and Brandy Melville I couldn’t resist stepping in and browsing, but never forget I bought the stuff too.I feel the presentations are vital  for retail shopping.

I also observed most of the stores had lowered their prices. The stores like The Earnest Sewn are selling good stuff for best price, most of the stuff I saw doesn't looks off trend.
Specially the prices of Savy’s @ Nordstrom, seemed quite low.

142. Extension Drawing

When I started this project, was not so confident. But as it is completed I was so satisfied.
The drawing supposed to be non object, abstract and can be a theme.
I took pieces of magazine with high contrast and tried to develop a drawing with a theme in 4” / 4” square. Certainly it took two days to complete the project.

138. Blossoms of Sea World

When I was in San Diego Sea world this Friday, more than anything, the flowers in the park caught my attention. Beautiful flowers with diverse colors and patterns were just charming on hot sunny day.
This trip started stressful, but as I rushed inside the colorful blossoms just turned me on.
I felt Sea World has one of a kind flower collection that amuses and welcomes the visitors. I heard the park looks more ravishing specially in summer filled with vivid flowers.
I would like to mention that, never forget stopping by and smelling these beautiful flowers if you are visiting Sea World.
